Yamis turns your computer into your own artificial intelligence. It finds out which model works best on your hardware, sets it up and gives you agents that code, edit files and complete tasks for you – no subscription, and your data never leaves your home.
Free · Windows, macOS and Linux · Browser, Android app and command line

We are opening in waves: every week we invite a small group from the waiting list – in the order people signed up. The earlier you are on the list, the sooner you are in.
Mimir checks your computer – processor, memory, graphics card – and tests with real tasks what it can do.
2
Set up
You decide how much power the AI may use. Yamis picks the right one from freely usable models and sets everything up.
3
Get going
Talk to Yamis in the browser, in the app or on the command line. The agents work step by step – and ask you before every change.
What you need for the beta
A computer of your own with Windows, Linux or macOS – your AI runs on it.
As much memory and graphics memory as possible: from about 16 GB of RAM it becomes usable, and a graphics card with 8 GB or more makes Yamis much faster.
Mimir: it measures your computer, recommends the right model and connects it to your account. If the power is not enough, it tells you honestly.
You can then use Yamis anywhere – in the browser, in the app or on the command line – as long as your computer is running.
What Yamis does for you
Programming
Yamis reads your project, writes and reviews code, runs tests and explains what it did – right in your project folder.
Servers and systems
Checking updates, setting up services, finding problems: Yamis looks after your servers – every change only after your yes.
More than text
Design 3D objects for printing, analyse PDFs, understand voice messages. Just say what you need – Yamis works out how.
Agents that ask
Plan, act, verify – on their own, but never without your yes. Dangerous commands are blocked, every step stays traceable.
Wherever you are
Browser, Android app, command line, editor and terminal – all talk to the same Yamis and the same conversations.
Private by principle
No ads, no tracking, no selling of your data. Your model runs on your computer – not in a corporation’s data centre.
Together in one conversation
In a tandem, several people work with Yamis in the same command-line session – everyone sees what the others type and what Yamis does.
Remembers how you work
Tell Yamis once what matters to you – a language, a style, a rule. It keeps it in mind for every task that follows and forgets it when you say so.
Sees what you see
Drag or paste screenshots and images into the command line – Yamis looks at them and carries on with the work.
Measured, not guessed
Spec sheets say little about whether a model really works on your machine. Yamis measures it – with real programming tasks.
0 → 2out of 2 tasks solved – same laptop, same model, just the right settings
20tokens per second on a laptop with an 8 GB graphics card
4 / 4test tasks passed on that laptop – as accurate as our big AI machine
Why Yamis
The name brings two figures together. Ymir is the primordial giant of Norse myth: born in the void between fire and ice, his body became the world. Raw strength from which something great arises.
His digital counterpart is a companion who is uncannily clever, always there and a loyal friend. Yamis is both – the power of your own computer and a digital best friend who helps you.
That is why the sign in the rune ring, why ice and ember: your hardware becomes your own AI world.
How it all fits together
Our programs are named after figures from Norse tradition. Not as decoration: the old story tells quite precisely how they relate to one another.
Ymir and the world
Where the ice of Niflheim met the embers of Muspelheim, Ymir arose, the first giant. The gods shaped the world from his body – the earth from his flesh, the sea from his blood, the sky from his skull. At its centre lies Midgard, the world of humans.
The dwarves from Ymir’s flesh
In Ymir’s flesh the dwarves began to stir, Snorri’s Edda tells us, and the gods gave them understanding and human shape. They live in earth and rock and are the great smiths of the saga. Two of them are Sindri and his brother Brokkr – so, like all dwarves, they come from Ymir.
The house spirit in Midgard
The nisse does not come from the Edda but from Scandinavian folklore: a small house spirit who watches over house and farm as long as he is treated well. He lives where people live – in Midgard, the world made from Ymir.
The well beneath the world tree
The world made from Ymir is held together by the world tree Yggdrasil. One of its roots reaches to the frost giants, Ymir’s descendants – and beneath it lies Mímir’s well, where wisdom and understanding are hidden. Odin gave an eye to drink from it: knowledge that rests deep in the world and can be fetched by those who give something in return.
And today
That is how the programs work together. Yamis is the power everything comes from. In Sindri, the forge, code is made; his brother Broko looks after your PC. Your own model draws its knowledge from Mimir’s well, and the app takes Yamis outside with you. Alongside, Nisse keeps watch over the terminal at your home – not of the clan, but at home in Midgard, just like you.
The Yamis family
Yamis, Sindri, Broko and Mimir belong together: they all work with the same Yamis and the same conversations. Anything still being built is marked as such. Beta testers can download them once they are invited.
Yamis
The core
Named after Ymir, the primordial giant from whom the world was made.
The server, with the chat in your browser and the agents that plan, act and verify. All the other programs talk to it.
Chat in the browser – with images, PDFs and voice messages too
Yamis CLI: Yamis on the command line, right in your project folder
Yamis Mobile, the Android app: tasks, conversation and notifications on the go
In use
Sindri
The forge of the gods
Named after the dwarf smith. In Snorri’s Edda the master is called Eitri; many retellings call him Sindri. With his brother Brokkr at the bellows he forged the golden boar Gullinbursti, the ring Draupnir and Thor’s hammer Mjölnir.
A development environment for PHP – with Yamis right beside it: questions about the code, suggestions as you type, and changes you see as a comparison first.
Completion, go to definition, rename across the whole project
Xdebug debugger with breakpoints and variables
Git with commit, diff, history and branches
In use
Click the workshop and Sindri forges on.
Broko
The helper for your PC
Named after Brokkr, Sindri’s brother. He worked the bellows and kept the fire steady – even when Loki stung him as a gadfly. Without him, none of the masterpieces would have succeeded.
For everyone who would rather not deal with technology: you say in your own words what you need – update the PC, install a program, write a letter – and Broko takes care of it.
A calm window, one input field, big suggestions to get started
Asks before every change – with clear buttons in everyday language and a “What does this mean?”
Forges while you wait: a soft ember glow and short sentences about what is happening
Being built
Broko can already talk, explain and ask for permission; acting on the PC itself and setting a restore point before every change come next.
Mimir
The well of wisdom
Named after Mímir, keeper of the well of wisdom beneath a root of the world tree Yggdrasil. Odin gave an eye to drink from it and later still sought counsel from Mímir’s head. In the same way you give Mimir a share of your computer – and keep the knowledge at home.
A desktop program for Windows, Linux and macOS. It measures your computer, lets you decide how much power the AI may use, and recommends the model that runs best on it.
Measures processor, memory, memory bandwidth and graphics card
Sliders for memory, graphics memory and CPU cores
Recommends a model – with reasons and expected speed
Being built
Measuring, setting limits and recommending already work; downloading and setting up the model come next. A first preview is available for testers under Downloads.
Alongside: Nisse
Nisse is deliberately not part of the family. It is a standalone terminal that is useful without Yamis – and at the same time the best place to work with Yamis.
Nisse
The keeper of the terminal
Named after the nisse, the house spirit who watches over house and farm.
A terminal and SSH program for the desktop; it comes with the Yamis CLI. An image on the clipboard lands in the terminal as a file – handy for showing Yamis a screenshot.
Tabs with a local shell, PowerShell or cmd on Windows
SSH with host key checking, SFTP in its own tab
Keeps itself up to date – installs only after your click

Function and art
Programs used to have a heart: a figure you recognised, a small movement you missed when it was gone. Today most of them look the same – correct, but lifeless.
We want to bring the two back together. Each of our programs has a character, and it moves only where it has something to say. Above all while you wait: waiting is part of working with AI – so it should at least be a small experience, not an empty spinner.
Yamis is thinking
The ember core in the send button breathes while Yamis works on the answer – and only then.
Sindri is forging
When a program, a test or a build runs, Sindri’s eyes glow. When Yamis is working, his hammer strikes and sparks fly.
Nisse takes it easy
When the terminal has nothing to do, the nisse lets his cap droop and his lantern glows. For long commands he reaches for his pickaxe, saw or noodle pot.
If you have asked your operating system for less motion, the figures stay still – on this page too.
The story behind it
Yamis was not born in a corporation but at a desk. A single developer built it in his spare time – on his own hardware, with his own money – and uses it every day: for programming, for his servers, for his own apps.
The drive: AI should belong to everyone, not just to a few with huge data centres who decide what is good and what is not. It should be private, and simple.
The dream: our own models
Today Yamis works with freely available models that others have trained. The dream is to develop and train our own models – as good as the big ones and still small enough for your computer at home. That takes our own AI server with several powerful graphics cards, around 30,000 euros today. If it can pay for itself, this server should also provide Yamis’ basic functions – for everyone who doesn’t (yet) have powerful hardware of their own. How fast this happens depends on how many people want to join: every place on the waiting list helps us judge that.
How Yamis will be funded in the long run is still open. Right now there is a single developer who pays the costs himself – the future will show what comes of it. One thing is certain, though: Yamis will not be stuffed with ads. The goal is a fair system that sustains itself.
An address on our own mail server is planned – right now the cost is not yet worth it for the project.
Where we are
Yamis is already in daily use. The beta for everyone starts on 1 December 2026 – with the Mimir program, which measures your computer and sets up the right model. We open in small groups, and whoever joins helps shape it: just create a ticket in Yamis with your wishes.
